The Languages Institute and Cidesco with the support of the UELC Network brought 11 universities from the Southwest of Colombia together to celebrate the connection between music and the English language through the 6th version of The Song Challenge 2022.  

Last Thursday, November 3rd, 2022, twelve finalists showed their extraordinary talents and unique voice performances in an outstanding event that took place at Universidad Libre.  

The event was opened by a speech from Cali’s Secretary of Education, José Darwin Lenis, followed by Libre University Sectional President Helio Ramírez Echeverry, Cidesco’s director, Camilo Lezcano, and UAO’s Languages Institute director, Ana Milena Muñoz. 

Around 300 people attended the final in the Paraninfo Auditorium and more than 500 people joined the radio program UAO Speaks English’s live transmission through YouTube.  

The show was hosted by UAO’s English professor and radio program coordinator, Diana Isabel Toro, and the half time show was performed by Iridio rock band from Javeriana university. 

There was also a special coverage of the event through the UAO Speaks English Instagram Live Stories, where 2,255 accounts were reached, and 29.817 impressions were generated. People also voted for their favorites by liking the finalists’ posts and participated in the Selfie Challenge with the hashtag #songchallenge2022.  

The following were the best three places awarded by five recognized juries: 

First Place: Stefanny Castillo Palacios – Universidad Santiago de Cali.  

Second Place: Sara González – Unidad Central del Valle del Cauca, Uceva.  

Third Place: Duet: Melany Hoyos Bravo and Daniela Johanna Bravo Muñoz  – Universidad del Cauca.

All finalists were awarded English online courses, and souvenirs given by Pearson, Education First, Accedo and National Geographic Learning who sponsored the event.
